Adipic Acid Based Interleaving Powder
Boric Acid Based Interleaving Powder

SaberPack understands that glass manufacturers do everything in their power to produce perfectly clear float glass, and it is SaberPack’s job to keep it that way. SaberPack has a variety of interleaving powder products specifically designed to meet the needs of float glass manufacturers.

Between production and coating, float glass protection is of the essence. SaberPack understands that the high-tech coatings require nearly perfect glass surface quality, and SaberPack glass separating powders are engineered to provide the necessary protection. Every piece of float class sent to the coater will come out perfectly using SaberPack’s cutting edge interleaving powder products.

Adipic Acid Based Interleaving Powder

The raw materials in our interleavant products aren’t new but the technology behind them is state of the art and unique to SaberPack. SaberPack produces three grades of adipic acid based interleavant powder, AL-55e, AL-55, and AB-3565 HG. SaberPack AL-55e is roughly equivalent to Sydeline Lucor LA50. It’s a blend (by weight) of 50% adipic acid and 50% Lucite beads so it’s composition is basically the same as Sydeline Lucor LA50 but AL-55e is processed in a climate controlled environment and is packed in heat sealed bags so AL-55e is consistently free flowing and seldom requires prescreening before use. AL-55 is a blend of 50% adipic acid and 50% acrylic beads but the particle size distribution of the beads is more closely controlled than AL-55e or Sydeline Lucor LA50 and this allows for more uniform powder coverage on the glass surface and a potential reduction in the occurrence of worm tracks. AB-3565 HG is the highest grade adipic acid interleavant powder offered by SaberPack. AB-3565 HG is a blend of 35% adipic acid and 65% acrylic beads with the acid being processed to a smaller mean particle size and the acrylic beads being classified to our most stringent particle size distribution standard.

Traditionally, adipic-based interleave powders have a tendency to become clumpy and loose their free flowing character during periods of high humidity. SaberPack Adipic Interleave Powders are produced in a climate-controlled environment to prevent moisture contamination, and the adipic acid is conditioned in a proprietary process prior to blending to ensure that the majority of the adipic crystals are smaller than the acrylic beads without creating a high “fines” content. Heavy-duty heat sealed poly pack bags ensure that customers receive the highest value, best performance product available anywhere.

Boric Acid Based Interleaving Powder

For the toughest environments, Boric Acid Based Interleaving Powder can eliminate stain problems. SaberPack produces two grades of boric acid-based interleaving powder, BL-55 and BB-3565 HG. SaberPack BL-55 is a blend (by weight) of 50% boric acid and 50% acrylic (PMMA) beads and BB-3565 HG is a blend of 35% boric acid and 65% acrylic beads with the acrylic beads being classified to a tighter size distribution.

At ambient temperatures, boric acid is more soluble in water than adipic acid and also has a lower molecular weight, providing more stain protection power pound for pound. SaberPack’s boric acid based interleaving powders have been used to provide up to one year of stain-free protection for glass stored in high humidity warehouse conditions.

Note: Boric acid based interleaving powders do offer excellent performance characteristics but special attention is required in order to achieve trouble free performance. Boric acid is less acidic than adipic acid and this may affect the performance of systems used to introduce fresh water into some automated washing systems. Boric acid can also create a greater slip hazard if the product is allowed to collect on the floor in pedestrian traffic areas. Visual confirmation of application rates for BL-55 and BB-3565 HG tend to be deceiving. Due to the very uniform nature of these products it is easy to mistakenly apply them at an excessive rate if visual inspection is the only means of verifying application rate.
